Thirsty Surfer
I thought I would pass this on becase it almost became a problem for me. We are arriving on a Sunday ( 06/22) and because of that told our relatives to order online wine/liquor online at thirstysurfer.com and we did the same. My cousin received an e-mail back that stated that the Thirsty Surfer wes closed on Sunday and they could pick up their order on Monday :( . I received no such notice for my order, so I called to check. I finally got a call back from the manager today saying that they would leave our purchases in the gift shop (open unitl 5:00pm). Has anyone else had this problem. I thougt the idea was that if you ordered and paid in advance it was no problem. :?:

It always worked before. They must have changed their hours, or the government closed the loophole that let you "buy" on Saturday and pickup on Sunday, or both. Their website now shows that they are closed on Sundays.

that's a bummer if they're closed. If you get in early enough hit the driftwood for the bar-b-que and a couple of cheaper drinks.

Duty Free
You can buy "duty free" in whatever airport you are leaving from and bring it into the Caymans. Check on the Cayman tourist site for the amounts you can bring in. At least it will hold you over until Monday.

Thanks for the replys. As for the duty free a couple of thoughts... We hate wasting our duty free allowance especially going TO Cayman on wine since you don't get that good a deal; so we usually buy the things that would cost much more like single malt scotch, good vodka etc. I usually do that and just order a couple of bottles of wine for Sunday evening. Also, this time we are going on Continental, connecting in Newark, NJ at 8:15am. Even if the duty free were open, they moved our flight up so that we only have 46 minutes between flights. I don't know if we will be able to have enough time to purchase and make it aboard.

Guess I'm confused. Can't one just bring a liter apiece from home as long as it is in checked bags? GOM

of course you can pack 1 cs of beer or 1 qt of liquor per person and just put into check-thru bags. (there are many coolers that are exact length and width dimensions of a cs of beer...2 will thus fit...what a shame about thirsty surfer...we arrived on Sun for some yrs., it always worked well Craig McKee

On my point, I don't want to be lugging it down there so the thirsty surfer was good. I am going to check the rules next week when I am there but I briefly told our rep (Penny) today about the issue and her first reply was "what do you need". Of course I told her I had it handled but interesting to know that you might be able to use your Morritts contacts to pick up beer/wine/liquor for you to be there when you arrive. I will investigate further on-site. Don

I thought the charge for luggage was for domestic travel only.

We can't bring any liquor from home- we live in PA, it isn't allowed to cross state lines.... I wish I had known about ATL in Jan! shoot! Let's see, in Dec I am connecting in Charlotte- does anyone know if and where duty free is there?

harpoonipa1967- 06-19-2008

There is a duty free shop in Charlotte. I thinks it's in terminal A but not sure. Check the in flight magazine for it's location before you land there.
