Marshall's
I can't seem to find the website or email for Marshall's car rental. Would someone please provide that for me? Thank you! Carol

www.marshalls.ky
PS- I just reserved a car with Andy's using the Cayman Activity Guide discount at a very good price- way less than Marshalls

I'll check out both. We need a 9 passenger van.
When we were there in 2006, Andy's didn't have one. Thank you very much!

There was a discussion on this forum, not too long ago, about auto insurance. One of the items I contributed was a reminder that some complimentary Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) coverage doesn't cover 9 passenger vans. I know for a fact that the complimentary American Express coverage does not. In order to get coverage for a large van, Amex sells a separate policy for $24.95 that's good for a continuous 42 day period, and it provides primary coverage on collision and theft, and secondary coverage on medical bills.
If you were planning to use the complimentary CDW provided by many credit card companies, I suggest that you get confirmation, in writing, from your credit card company that they do cover 9 passenger vans.
I'm not aware of any credit card company that provides liability coverage, either free or for a fee. Since your US personal auto insurance policy doesn't provide liability coverage in the Cayman Islands, your purchasing liability coverage from the auto rental company is, in my opinion, a very good idea.

Thanks for the tip. We've always checked with our auto insurance company before we've gone and been told us that our policy would cover us in the Cayman Islands. Maybe something has changed since we were there Jul, 2006. I will definately check into it though! Oh, mselizann, I checked Andy's and Marshall's. We're going in July, so maybe summer rates are different. However, Marshall's is 390.00 for the week for a 9 passenger van, and Andy's was 456.00 for the week. With the Cayman Activity Guide 10% discount for Andy's that makes it like 406.00. Marshall's was still a tad bit less.

Please let us know the results of your conversation with your insurance company. I know you should never say never, but I've never heard of liability/collision/comprehensive coverage on an automobile policy issued by a US insurer that was valid outside the US.

We just returned on the 12th and rented a 9 pass. van from Andy's for one of the two weeks we were there. The price was about $520.00 for the week. It would of been a little more than $650 but we have been renting from Andy's for the last 6 years and we asked if we could have a better than the internet discount for coming back to them every year and they gave us 20% off. It pays to ask.

We are heading to Cayman in August. We always use Marshalls as they seem to be the cheapest. I reserved a 9-passenger van for the week and was quoted $351. Cannot beat that. 8)

We are leaving for Cayman on Friday and have cheap rates for Dollar with the Morritts discount and also Coconuts. they are about the same. I didn't try Marshall's but I will. Is it also located on airport property? I had rented with Andy's in the past but this time they were pricier. In any case, we just called Visa and Amex yesterday to find out what they would cover. American Express ONLY offers secondary conerage to your primary coverage from the rental company which suprised me. I got this from an Amex agent whom I spoke with. I called Visa and they have much better coverage and will cover primary coverage. You can find their benefit coverage at:
www.visa.com/benefits
It does NOT cover personal liability as you all had mentioned. Do you think homeowners/auto insurance covers that? I need to check. I will also check on Marshalls for a rate.

marshalls
Yes, Marshalls is right in that little strip where all the other car rental places are. Good Luck.

When you get out of the airport, walk to the left, past Departures and you will see the car rental agencies across the road.

i just looked at Marshall's online and their summer rates with the discount etc. look more than the rate we got for a midsize through Dollar or Coconuts with our discount. We got a rate of $280 through Dollar for a Toyota Corolla for our entire 10 days and $284.50 through Coconuts for a Nissan Sentra. Does anyone have an opinion on who might have newer cars and if there is any difference in size between the Corolla and the Sentra? Thanks.

Rod, I checked with my insurance carrier, and they highly suggested purchasing the policy through the rental companies. They said it still covers us in Canada and Mexico, but other countries have alot of different laws, and some are unclear, so play it safe, get the coverage. It never hurts to have too much coverage. SO, thank you for bringing that to my attention.
Kmac, we also were quoted the 351.00 for the van the second week in July. The website says 390.00. So, we were very happy.
Dollar might quote a cheaper price. However, be very careful. We rented through them in 2006 because we got the good deal (??) through The Golden Turtle Club. Long story short, we noticed the tail light was broken when we got to Morrits. Took it back when we went to town 2 days later, they charged us something like 364.00 (forgot the exact amount now) to fix it!! We had no proof that it was like that when we got it. Lesson learned...go over every inch of the vehicle with a representative before leaving the place, take pictures with dates on them. Also, we paid cash for our driver's license. Got back to the states and they had charged them on our credit card. Once again, no proof of paying cash!! Maybe we just had some bad luck, but thought I should give you a warning.

OUCH!!! Thanks for the scoop on Dollar! Based on that i think we will cancel that reservation. I have always rented from either Marshalls or Andy's in the past but they couldn't give us as good a deal. Anyone ever rented from Coconuts?
