If you rented from Andy's in the past, they will give you a 20% discount once you get there. You just have to ask for it. Works for us every year.

Thanks. I will try that. I have rented from them in the past but for some reason I swear they weren't able to match the discount I got from Coconuts or Dollar. I will try again though as the post on Dollar really scared me off.

FYI for anyone interested: I have called a bunch of rental agencies and the best rates I got were through Dollar and Coconuts. I have reservations at both and plan to see if one car looks newer or is in better shape than the next. Marshalls came the closest to matching the rate within 5 bucks and Andy's wasn't even close, even with a 20% discount. They were nearly 100 bucks more. Does anyone have any experience with Coconuts? After the post on Dollar that makes me nervous to use them Thanks for the scoop if anyone has it. We arrive on Friday! Can't wait!

BIL often rents from Coconuts and hasn't mentioned any problems. Speaking of different rules and laws in other countries, last time I was there I noticed that even full coverage didn't allow for wet carpet or seats. It also didn't cover falling objects (it mentioned coconuts as an example). Was glad Morritts covered the roof when they dropped a sofa on it! :D

Well...after all of that Marshall's actually emailed me back and beat everyone's price! So we are booking through them. They also said that they cover liability in the car rental. Hopefully that means it's covered without getting their insurance. I explained that we have collision and theft covered through the credit card but not liability and they said it's already covered. My home/auto insurance covers nothing in Cayman. We are very excited to head down on Friday after a 4 year absence. Our 11 year old son is getting scuba certified so he can dive with Mom and Dad too! :D

When you get out of the airport, walk to the left, past Departures and you will see the car rental agencies across the road. Has Andy's moved? Last year, it was straight across the road and a bit to the right as you exited the arrivals area at the airport terminal.

Rod, I checked with my insurance carrier, and they highly suggested purchasing the policy through the rental companies. They said it still covers us in Canada and Mexico, but other countries have alot of different laws, and some are unclear, so play it safe, get the coverage. It never hurts to have too much coverage. SO, thank you for bringing that to my attention. You're very welcome. Frankly, I'm amazed that your policy will cover you in Mexico.

Andy's is still across from the arrivals area, a little to the right. The rest of the car rental companies are to the left, walk past the departures area and across the road...there is major construction still going on at the airport.

Having read all the posts about rentals and the cherry pittfalls of the insurance game; I was carefull to check with all the providers this time. What I found was that Some (like Andy's) charge a fee for the liability waiver. The rental I went with this time was at Marshalls and they claim that the liability insurance is included. Like most of us who use CCs the collision IS covered by VISA,MC, AMEX etc. Just a fyi :?

We used coconuts maybe 15 yrs ago for a few yrs, they were fine, but then i found that marshalls was cheaper...have dealt with marshalls for at least a dozen yrs now, i like that each year when i do the reservation i deal with the same person who knows me and what i want...craig

Just got back from Cayman and rented from Marshalls. Not only is it the best price in town, but as I mentioned they DO include the liability insurance. Ms Jackson seems to be there all the time, she promptly returned my e-mails before we arrived and was courtious and helpful when we were there. My Opinion... ***** (5 Stars) for Marshalls :D

Marshalls
i just looked at Marshall's online and their summer rates with the discount etc. look more than the rate we got for a midsize through Dollar or Coconuts with our discount. We got a rate of $280 through Dollar for a Toyota Corolla for our entire 10 days and $284.50 through Coconuts for a Nissan Sentra. Does anyone have an opinion on who might have newer cars and if there is any difference in size between the Corolla and the Sentra? Thanks. Anybody know if Thanksgiving is considered to be summer or winter rates. I went to their website and only asking for a quote but couldn't figure out how to do it. It said to hit the "send now" button but there was none. Only "book now". even clicking on "book now" it errored out. So just wondering if anybody can tell me in general if it would be summer or winter rates. The rate difference for car we wanted is $240 v. $360 (summer v. winter) for midsize, which doesn't seem any cheaper than what i've seen doing a search on Andy's website or Kayak (and more expensive if Marshall doesn't include taxes, etc. in those prices) which I doubt they do.
