GPS
Has anyone brought their GPS to Grand Cayman? Do you have to download the maps from a PC or does it just automatically download the map when you're there? I know there are not many roads but I still get lost downtown.

Depending on which GPS you have the answer will most likely be different. Most have pre loaded US maps but not Caribbean islands. If you go to another country, you have to buy the maps. I have a Garmin and recently went to Spain. I purchased a SanDisk that is inserted in the GPS that had the Spain map on it. Without that it would not have worked. The disks are not inexpensive, but in our case was well worth it.
I'm not sure if a Caribbean disk is even available. My best advice is to check out the web site of your GPS manufacturer.
I own a Garmin as well. Last I checked they do not have Cayman maps. Kind of ironic since they are a Cayman corporation.

Mine is a Garmin. We looked on the website and couldn't find it either. Yea I thought it was kind of weird also that a Cayman company didn't have Cayman. Maybe I'll drop by their business office when I'm there. The island is small and maybe they think it isn't necessary...but I still get lost and I've become dependent on the little gadget. I hope they don't go out of business. They're in a little financial situation currently.
Ouch, that doesn't sound good. Any more info on that? I have a Lowrance in my airplane, but am considering changing to Garmin. Garmin pretty much "owns" the aviation GPS business these days.
They're not a Cayman company. They're a Cayman corporation, which is considerably different. Garmin's headquarters facility is located in Olathe, Kansas.

I've always thought that if the CAG ever wanted to give the economy a real kick-start, they should require that all Cayman corporations have at least one on-island employee.
