Cayman air to DC & ChicagoCAL heads to US capital

(CNS): The National Flag carrier will be introducing a direct flight to the US capital when it begins flying into the gateway of Washington’s Dulles airport. And it looks like Chicago will be Cayman Airways’ kinda’ town once again as the airline re-introduces the previously failed route this winter.
“We intend to keep an eye on the US market in the future but for this winter we are introducing Washington and Chicago for sound business reasons,” said Hernandez.
First introduced in December 2003, Chicago was dropped by the airline last year, but Hernandez says the route was not a complete failure. “We think it was the wrong days and times and perhaps it wasn’t marketed as well as it could have been. Managed properly we believe this will be a successful gateway,” she added.

WOW! I am so excited about this, we only live 20 mins from Dulles Airport. I hope I never have to deal with Charlotte or Miami customs again!!!
Any news on when these flights will be starting?
Now if Southwest from MSP and Cayman air from the windy city can get us to the Caymans in one day without a night layover on both ends!
As Cayman Air said..."We think it was the wrong days and times ......."
Schedule problems before....we used to fly out on Sunday and home on Saturday so had to give up a day of our vacation. I'll be looking for the new schedule!

This was our gripe as well, but it is the only schedule that makes sense for them unless they bring another complete crew along with them and do the whole GCM-ORD-GCM tun in a single day.
If they do a Sat to Sat out of ORD, we will consider flying them again. I, too, was never willing to give up a day of my vacation.

Ron: one problem with Southwest -- Southwest flys in and out of Midway only; Cayman goes in and out of O'Hare.
Southwest has a hub in Ft. Lauderdale if that would help. Spirit also has a hub in Ft. Lauderdale and they do fly to GCM
New cayman schedule from D.C. and Chicago announced
Received cayman Airways email that the chicago schedule will be Sundays and Wednesdays and yes, to and from on the same day. So you won't lose a vacation day. D.C. Schedule was same day there and back on Saturdays (there are other days of travel also but they dont help out timesharers). This should help a lot of people get there and not lose a vacation day at Morritts.
Thanks jtridle for the info.
The way it sounds the plane would leave, let's say at 7am from Cayman and arrive in the Windy City around noon. Then take off at 2 pm and get home, what, around 6-6:30..
Not good IMHO
Let's hope Delta/Northwest keeps the nonstop from MSP going :D
I would think because the crew can only fly a certain amount of hours then must have a certain amount of hours rest and sleep time, they want to get the plane in and out with the same crew????
Very Nice! it will really reduce the distance and cost. When these flights are going to be start? I am frequent flyer and used to fly out on Monday and home on Saturday.
Good management’s decision.
Cayman from Dulles ends April 2009
I just checked the 2009 schedules for service from Washington Dulles to Grand Cayman. From what I can tell, the service is being discontinued after mid-April. Does anyone have any further information? :(
